Nessebur lies just to the south of Sunnybeach. Nessebur is famous for its Old Town which is situated on a narrow peninsula jutting out into the Black Sea and is connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus shown in the picture opposite. Historically Nessebur has been an important trade route over many centuries. It has many narrow cobbled streets, wooden houses and more than 40 medieval churches.

Once inside the Town, entering via its 6th century fortified Town Gate you will find the Archaeological Museum (open daily 9am - 7pm) which gives a good introduction to the town's history. Nessebur has an excellent choice of restaurants, taverns and cafes. Some recommended restaurants include Perla Restaurant, Pizzaria Ponko, Krum Restaurant  and Captains Rest.

There is regular transport connecting Bourgas, Pomorie, Nessebur and Sunny Beach. During the peak season, there are a lot of private taxis and minibuses at competitive prices as well as regular water transport to Bourgas. One can often hire local boatsmen to visit nearby places in the bay.
